AMS Radiocarbon Dating Lab

Welcome to the web page of the 14C dating group at the ETH/PSI AMS facility in Zurich, Switzerland

The AMS Radiocarbon laboratory at the ETH Zurich has been operating for the last 20 years.

For the last 15 years we have been involved in numerous projects in   Archaeology, Climate research as well as dating of art objects and textiles. To see short summaries of some of them visit our Annual Reports collection.

We process Small samples (1-2 mg of pure Carbon) of wood, charcoal, bone, ivory, carbonate, textile, macrofossils and other material.

Each month a set of 100-150 samples is prepared and 14C ages are measured. That is basically our turnaround time. For more information on submitting sample, prices, expertise contact   Dr. Georges Bonani or  Dr. Irka Hajdas.

Results of the Fourth 14C laboratory intercomparison (FIRI)  were published  in Radiocarbon Journal volume 43 (2)  2003.  Our results has been published by (Hajdas et. al., in press) in an upcoming Proceedings of the 9th AMS Conference in Nagoya (2002).
